Dr. Sylvia Bhattacharya is an Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering Technology at Kennesaw State University (KSU), USA. Her research interests include biomedical signal processing, Neural signal and image processing, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent transportation systems, Biometrics and Engineering education. She is the director of “Innovation Lab” at KSU and has been mentoring three graduate students and eight undergraduate students and one postdoctoral candidate in research projects. Her research team is diverse and multi-disciplinary. She published her works in several peer reviewed IEEE conferences and journals. Currently, she has been awarded $486K by U.S Army to conduct research on “Multimodal Inference of Human State to Track Cognitive Processes in Risky Environments”.
She completed her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Florida State University. She has worked on a Florida Department of Transportation funded project during her PhD to develop “Cognitive Driver Distraction Model”. She also interned with Siemens
Dr. Bhattacharya also takes interest in engineering education for women and has several prior experiences of conducting out -reach activities in high schools and middle schools. She is also the current advisor of KSU Society of Women’s Engineering and professional member of IEEE Women’s chapter, United States. She has been working on several projects and publications that focuses on women of color in engineering. Besides IEEE, she holds a position as a proposal reviewer in National Science Foundation (NSF) and several other prestigious journals.
