Bio :

Dr. Heidi Heft LaPorte is an Associate Professor at Barry University. She has more than 25 years of teaching experience. She currently teaches human development, advanced clinical practice with groups, families, individuals in the MSW program, and both qualitative and quantitative methods in the Ph.D. program. She is working on certification in expressive arts at the Expressive Arts Florida Institute (EAFI) and is a member of the International Association of Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA). Dr. Heft LaPorte is a member of the International Association of Social Work with Groups (IASWG) and teaches in the Florida Institute for Group Facilitation (FIGF).  She is a member of the Association of Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).  Dr. Heft LaPorte brings multimodal and intermodal expressive arts into her teaching. She makes expressive arts accessible to students with diverse interests, body abilities, and identities, offering biweekly open studio expressive arts workshops at Barry University.  These workshops are co-sponsored by the Office of Accessibility Services and the Center for Human Rights and Social Justice, along with the school of Social work.  Dr. Heft LaPorte has authored and co-authored 28 articles in the areas of group work; social work practice and catastrophic events; HIV and sex education; domestic violence; social work in health care; and the Cuban Jewish Community.  Here research extends to the Jewish community both in and outside of Cuba.  She has also has authored a book of art and Poetry called Digital Healing. She continues to actively engage in efforts to promote healing and wellness through artistic expression, creating community partnerships between academicians, health and mental health professionals, and artists from a variety of disciplines.
